Back in 2012 Luke Stevenson was searching the internet for the fastest front wheel driven cars in Europe after seeing Bjorn Holmberg run Europe’s first 8 second FWD run back in October of 2011. Searching old internet forums in multiple different languages was how it was mostly done and it was the early days of facebook so connecting with people from different countries was nothing like the present day.
At first he tracked down a small number of 9 second cars and Bjorn the sole 8 second car. From there Europe’s Fastest FWD cars Facebook page was born, it was originally just a place to share different cars from all around Europe with a hand full of elite 9 second cars in a list showing who was fastest . From 2012 to present day we have evolved into European FWD and host the EFWD league table that has grown to over 250 FWD cars running the 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds.

Simply to promote Front Wheel Drive racing in Europe and around the world. When you think drag racing the majority of people with think a V8 and RWD but we come from a generation of racers that have grown up driving FWD cars and either have evolved a daily/project or have gone all out building a full blown FWD pro car.

We cover results from as many events around Europe as possible, mostly via contacts we have made over the years but try to attend as many different counties as possible to meet new racers and check out different cars. In 2018 we created merchandise to celebrate the EFWD brand with official speed clubs and other relevant designs. We aim to support and sponsor different events, classes and series around Europe to help promote FWD racing whenever and wherever we can.

Officially there is no European Front Wheel Drive (EFWD) class.
EFWD was designed to showcase the fastest FWD cars in Europe, combining high-performance engineering with strict safety and technical standards.
We can however advise that you make your vehicle meet the minimum safety standards required by many sanctioning bodies in Europe including the FIA.
We are actively building EFWD events with the view to starting a full EFWD series one day.
All vehicles must comply with EFWD safety regulations. This includes: A full roll cage or ROPS (as per FIA/MSUK specifications) Certified racing harnesses (SFI 16.1 / FIA 8853-2016) FIA or SNELL-approved helmet Fire-retardant race suit, gloves, and footwear (FIA 8856 or SFI 3.2A/5) Master electrical cut-off and sealed battery installations. These requirements ensure all competitors meet FIA-level safety standards.
Yes — nitrous oxide systems are permitted. However, each bottle must be clearly identified with the blue N₂O marking in accordance with FIA Appendix J. The bottle and lines must be securely mounted and isolated from the driver’s compartment.
A functional parachute system is mandatory for any vehicle exceeding 150 mph terminal speed. This is to guarantee safe deceleration beyond standard braking capability.
All EFWD entries must retain a front-wheel-drive configuration and production-style bodyshell. Fuel systems must be located outside the driver’s compartment, protected by a sealed firewall, and mounted within the vehicle’s frame. Minimum ground clearance is 76 mm (3 inches) at the front and 51 mm (2 inches) for the remainder of the chassis.
The complete EFWD Rulebook, including technical specifications, safety equipment standards, and class regulations, is available to view on the official EFWD website here. Competitors should also refer to GSR4:11 of the Drag Racing Rule Book or contact an accredited chassis builder for cage specifications.
